[grammar] too convoluted?

Dear Users,

Do you think the following paragraph is too convoluted/unclear grammar-wise? Would you say it should be rephrased?

This time the class opened with a progress check. The test covered grammar and vocabulary from Unit 1 plus additional lexical items from handouts that the students were given in the previous classes.
