In grazing-based systems this incompatibility becomes extreme. In NZ, dairy production systems are headed towards an increased intensification level. However, at least 50% of dairy systems still are grazing-based so nutritional environment is not completely controlled in these systems.

The results of this study show that dairy cows have a poor reproductive performance, particularly when compared with the 82-day interval between calving and conception optimal value to obtain one calving per year.
