Grammar - sizes

Buying shoes and clothes

I usually wear size 38, but this time I'm going to take the 39. The ones in 38 are too tight and I can't even wriggle my toes.

Most of my tops are size small but I might try this one in medium.

There is something about these sentences that doesn't sound quite right.

Could you perhaps help me? I apologize for springing such silly questions on you.

Thank you.

Most of my tops are size small but I might try this one in medium.

I feel this could be better corrected to "Most of my tops are one size small but I might try this one in medium." or maybe "Most of my tops are a size small but I might try this one in medium."
