2. I am doing home work/I do home work.

fist sentence tells about my appearance and second one tells about the work i am doing. i knew the meaning of 2 sentences so i could understand the difference. but what should i do if i come across any new sentence in this form.Could anyone tell me is there any grammar which makes 2 sentences to convey the different meaning
