Grammar Question - use of "since"

Hello!

I have a question regarding how the word "since" was used in the following sentence:

"I have learned Chinese since three years ago."

This strikes me as incorrect, but a friend argued that including the word "ago" makes the time frame specific enough to allow the use of "since" in that particular sentence.

Would he be correct? I don't think it's specific enough, but I don't know.

Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

"I have learned. Chinese since three years ago" is OK.
But I prefer "I have learned Chinese for the past three years".

It's not nearly as natural as "I have been learning Chinese for three years"

Thanks, fivejedjon.

That's why I say the sentence is OK, but I prefer "I have learned Chinese for the past three years".

I wouldn't say the first sentence is wrong.
