Grammar question no. 79

Hello there,

Could you please have a look at the following sentences and help me correct the grammar?

I went to several stores here in Shanghai and had a chance to play both Yamaha FG730 and Sigmas DM-15/OOOM-15. DM-15 sounds much better than 000M-15 but that aside I have to say that neither Yamaha nor Sigma made a great impression on me. There was no "wow-effect" in case of either of them.

Questions:

1) We have three different guitar models here. Is it correct to use both in the first sentence?
2) Should I enlist each guitar separately? i.e. ...had a chance to play both Yamaha, Sigma DM and Sigma OOOM?
3) Is but that aside used correctly here or should I say but aside from that?
4) Is neither the right word in I have to say that neither Yamaha nor Sigma... ? After all there are 3 guitars involved, not two.
5) A similar question but about in case of either of them. I think either can only be used when we refer to two items.

Thank you very much in advance.

This is how I would word it: I went to several stores here in Shanghai and had a chance to play Yamaha 's FG730 as well as Sigma's DM-15 and OOOM-15. The DM-15 sounds much better than 000M-15 but aside from that I have to say that neither Yamaha nor Sigma made a great impression on me. There was no "wow-effect" from any of their guitars .

  • Comments: Yes, don't use "both" for any number other than two.
  • You could reword this so that "both" refers to the two brands, but that is unnecessary.
