Grammar question no. 17 - random conversational English

Dear All,


Would you be so kind and check off these of the senteces that sound natural and grammatical? All of them have been taken out from random conversations.

  1. I can't communicate with these people, and there's no future here for me. What's more, they "always know better" even when they are wrong... I don't feel like being a part of a team.
  2. I wanna ask my parents if my apartment is being rented out at the moment or not.
  3. Maybe I've been here for too long, maybe I should just go back and have a normal life like my friends. They don't earn much, I won't earn much, but at least I'll have a normal life.
  4. I'm not as young as you anymore. If I want to get a PhD, I wll graduate being 35 years old.

Perfect Stranger All of them have been taken out from random conversations. If they come from native speakers, they are natural and grammatical for the spoken language.

Yes, that is just what I would change, and no more. Good!—now, how about the others? (You needn't be overly cautious—there is no need to change 'want' to 'would like' or 'ask' to 'find out from' in #2, for instance.)

Thanks MM. In these sentence I'd consider changing the following things (although I'm not quite sure is these changes are necessary or not)

[...] and there's no future for me here (here has been moved to the end of the sentence) -- That's perfectly fine—but 'here' is perfectly fine where it is originally, too.

I don't feel like being part of the team (a has been deleted and the second a has been changed into the) -- Interesting. I agree that your phrasing is a more usual one, but changing 'a' to 'the' does chan
