Grammar question. Need answer please!

Hello. In this sentence:

The film Chicago is a modern musical, because the music, dance, and singing develop the characters, advance the plot, and convey the theme.

Should "develop" be "develops"? Same question goes for "advance" instead of "advances" and "convey" instead of "conveys". When do you add the "s" after the verb?
