Grammar question - can /although/ be used in this way?

Dear Users,

Can although be used at the beginning of the sentence? It kinda resembles despite the fact in meaning... or... does it?

1) Q: What's your goal for this course?
Although I already have a degree, I'd like to pursue further education at university. Right now I'd like to
familiarize myself with basic principles of international law and see if that's the path I'd like to take.

2) Q: Are you going to apply for a verified certificate?
Although I'd like to, right now I'm not sure if I can take the verified certificate path due to time constraints.

Thank you
