1) John had received an MBA from a prestigious university.
On the one hand , Mary had been given on-the-job training
in a large finance department.

I think it's B. But everytime I got the different answer from everyone. So not sure which is correct and why? Please clarify

qneng Please clarifyYou cannot use 'on the one hand' without 'on the other hand' (though the opposite is possible.)
