'given' is the past participle of 'give'.
'gone' is the past participle of 'go'.

I think it does. I passed a quiz recently and my answer "had almost given up and gone" for unknown reason was adopted as a mistake and the right answer was "had almost given up and went". That was the reason I decided to find out the truth. Thanks for your reply
