What is the problem with the sentence below please?

My book says the "the" article should be used rather than the 'a' article in that!

Yes, to some extent. But I too didn't see any mistake in this. No idea why the book said that!

Apparently the book assumes that her mother has bought her only one beautiful red dress. But we have no way of knowing if that's true.

Yes, that opinion is completely wise. How should we were aware of a previous story on that dress. Without any prior and next talk about that and just by reading that sentence, I think each of us would choose the 'a' article.
