grammar problem

Hey All,

This sentence is so confusing to me.

" Yet the very mechanics whom Ware credited with creating sound building without instruction were, in fact, hungry for knowledge."

Could anyone explain its grammar and rewrite it so it at least look like a normal sentence?

Thank.
