Grammar/ past or present tense

Could you tell me if it was ok to choose the tense I did? I always thought speed racing was exciting but couldn't watch it long because it's too dangerous. Should I have used because it was too dangerous instead? Can't we sometimes simply have our own preference?

The original sentence is okay. All the tenses in a sentence don't necessarily have to match each other. " I have never heard this term before.

Yes, either is OK here because speed racing is still dangerous NOW. However, native speakers tend to regress the verb.

Thanks. Speed racing is another term used for nascar.

Thanks for your answer. I wrote another reply earlier but it was meant for someone else, I'm still getting use to this site.
