Grammar of an infinitive

Hello - just a quick question for the experts!

In technical English, is it strictly correct to say "He did what I told him to" instead of "He did what I told him to do"?

Is omitting the verb infinitive in this way slang, or is it technically correct?

Thanks for your help!

You can omit it. It is not slang; it is perhaps a little informal, that is all.
