Ideal train driver must always put safety of a rail passengers and equipment as his priority. That involve risk managing, ability to reduce any system fault and the errors of others. Must maintain self discipline, stay alert and calm during the long periods of working alone without supervision. Must be self motivated, be able accept changes and also fallow all rules and regulations even when working in time frames and under pressure. Need to posses excellent communication skills. Ideal train driver need to be professional in every aspect of his work to deliver safe & best service for Scotland . Must accept responsibility for every thing that he/she is doing and not being complacent. Must act accurate and fast for every unexpected situation always putting safety as priority.
What are the main responsibilities of a train driver?
Train driver main responsibility is to drive train in a safe and economical manner in accordance to laid down rules That include driving according to speed restriction and in different weather conditions. He/She needs to obey all fixed signals on route, contact with signaler when required to do so. Driver must deal with train faults that are able to rectify by him/her self, also need to contact with maintenance control if other assistance is required (i.e. DEFECT BOOK ENTRY). Need to perform all safety checks before taking unit to service. Comply with the company policy on general safety when carrying out his/hers duties. Maintain satisfactory standards in knowledge of routes, traction and professional driving. Adhere to strict policies on drugs and alcohol. Always report to duty fully fit and in complete gear at specified locations. Take part in scheduled brief sessions that are designed to update his/hers knowledge of company operations and policies. Carry out emergency procedures when required to do so. Prepare and drive trains safely employing techniques set out in procedures. Must ensure that is aware of all information needed for safe operation of trains, that include knowledge of recent WON, PON, LATE NOTICE CASE, WTT etc,

Ideal train driver must have extraordinary intelligence and awareness of managing risk. Always safety focus must present self discipline to follow strict rules and regulations without supervision while working alone for long period of time. His professional attitude and approach must be visible when dealing with customers and co-workers. Must be capable to learn new things and adopt changes with positive attitude to improvements. What are the main responsibilities of a train driver?
Check the engine and general state of the train unit prior to start each journey. Ensuring that the precise route is known and approved by control. Finding out about any problems which are currently affecting the route. Maintaining an awareness of track condition and wither condition. Following signals. Fallowing safety regulations at all time. Keeping the train under control and at appropriate speed at all times. Keeping controls of instruments including breaks. Maintaining an awareness at emergency procedures. Making sure that restrictions are kept at all time. Stopping the train at the appropriate stops .Alerting the driver taking over duty about any incidents or engine issues. Keeping a record of any problems which my occur. Recording any delays which have affected the service. Alerting the control centre about any hazards which have been spotted along the route.
