Grammar

Grammar- life or lives.

For Jess and Fin, music was their lives.

I have asked friends and they say life because music is singular but this seems redundant since the subject agrees with the verb. For example, you'd say: it is their lives that matter. It is singular yet lives are plural. I mean each person separately, hence why I gravitate towards lives. Clarification would be amazing. Thanks all
