Grammar issue

Dear All

I'm trying to understand about "present" in the bellow sentence.

"what percentage of men are present when their children are born? Is it…"

I'm confused that grammar of "present" in the sentence. because "are" is verb, if I correct, then the next "present" should be a noun. but I'm confused that is used to a verb not noun.

Could you please help me to understand?
