[grammar] inversion x2?

Dear Users,

Could you please tell me if the way I've used inversion here is correct?

He takes notes and listens carefully, but neither is he very engaged in group work, nor does he contribute on an individual basis.

Thanks

The inversion itself is correct, but the sentence reads awkwardly. The 'neither' after the 'but' seems intitially to make a jarribg connection with the first clause.
