GRAMMAR IN RHYME

A noun is a name of anything
A school, garden, kites or king.
Adjectives tell the kind of noun,
As great, small, pretty, white or brown
Instead of a noun the pronoun stands,
As his head, her face, your arm, my hand.

Verbs tell of something being done,
To read, count, carry, laugh or run.
How things are done the adverbs tell,
As slowly, quickly, ill or well.
Conjunctions join the words together
As men and women, wind and weather.

The preposition stands before the noun
As in or through a door.
The interjection shows surprise as
Oh! How pretty
Three little words you often see
Are articles a, an and the
The whole are nine parts of speech.
Which reading, writing and speaking teach.

Sounds a lot like Malcolm Matheson's "Grammar in Rhyme" written in 1861 in Scotland.

Yes it is!!! I've always loved this poem and yes, it has been very very embarrassing for the way I told Anita to 'continue to inspire me' - I never even realised that it would appear to mean in context to the poem below. I actually meant the other poems that I have posted.

I like it...

Putting any piece of teaching in a 'song' formula makes it easy to learn...

Much fun is achieved, and that helps!

Thank you. I have looked for this grammar rhyme for so long. I started to think I was the only one who (or should it be whome) used it!
