Grammar help please?

Hi there,

Could you please check for me if these two words are almost in the same usage in these sentences?

If they are, which word do you think is more common in your life?


In my conversation, I always refer to / mention to cars if you notice.

These are specific patients, we only refer to / mention to their name by number only.

This article has not a direct reference to / mention to specific cases.
