Grammar help please?

Hi there,

Could you please advise if these two words share the same meanings? interchangeable? or which word is more common to you?


The West Germany and East Germany's people longed for unite / unify in early 90" .

Taiwan refused to unite / unify with China , no until communist party fall down.

unite and unify are verbs, with somewhat different meanings.

unite the parts join together eg The American states united, to form the USA.

unify something or someone makes the parts into one.
