This is possible in an informal abbreviated style if the answer to "asking what?" is clear from the context. It is not a formally correct or complete sentence.

John AkiI wrote to him complaining.

This is OK, though in careful English I would prefer "I wrote to him to complain".

John AkiI am listening to her singing.
I listened to her singing.

These are OK with the correction to make them read as I imagine you intended.

These sentences can actually be interpreted in two slightly different ways. In the first interpretation, "singing" is a noun. In the second interpretation, "singing" feels more verbal. This is a very subtle point.
