grammar- future perfect?

A student recently asked me to explain the grammar in the following sentence- "It will be the 1st time this technology has been used in space." Is the grammar correct? I feel like I would say something closer to, "It will be the first time for this technology to be used in space." or maybe, "It will be the first time that this technology will have been used in space." But the latter sounds a bit odd and wordy.
