Analysis of "Daddy"

Since I am from a family in which we are very close, reading this poem was shocking especially in the last line. Though the poem, it is quite apparent that the poet has a strong resentment toward her father. Though I could not find any information about Sylvia Plath's father, I am sure that she was mistreated in some ways by him.

Guessing some possible reasons of the trauma which the author was suffered might be helpful to understand this poem. At first, her father might be very rigid and strict with her when she was a kid. The author showed it by describing her father as a Hitler, who killed enormous number of people or mentioning the Holocaust that the Jews, Blacks, and gays were executed. Second, the author might be psychologically abused by her dad. Looking at the second stanza, "Daddy, I have had to kill you" (line 6), the author is out of control with a strong resentment. The thing is that all these things had happened before she was ten because her father died when she reached the age. At the age of ten, parents must be a figure of protection and care for children but, for her there was only a absence of the paternal figure.
