Grammar/ commas

Please tell me if I could have left a comma out? Aren't they over used? If a sentence/idea is flowing/makes sense why do we have to use a comma? I can honestly say I gave being sober a try it's been the longest I've been for the most part alcohol free in years but to say it's been so much better would be bs. I was going to put a comma after try. What do you say? I have another question wouldn't you understand my sentence without any commas?

Too many questions garbled up together in a pile. I suppose that the following is the text you are actually talking about. I have punctuated it appropriately: I can honestly say I gave being sober a try.

Emotion: smile Thanks for correcting my punctuation but I don't agree on you changing my choice of words. There should be a professor on here corr

I've been teaching the language professionally since 1967, His child. I'm pretty good at it by now.
