Grammar check please?

Hi there,

Could you please check for me if I am correct in this grammar?

Spend vs expend

Both can be used in "money, time, energy, effort" the only difference is formal and casual.

I spent / expended a lot of money and time on English.

I have spent / expended a lot of energy and effort on English.

Cheers

I did some research on this and came to the conclusion that no one can explain it. I used very good sources. I'll tell you that I rarely use or hear "expend" and would expect it in more formal contexts about finance and budgetary issues.

  • At the same time, I seem to be ignorant on the subject, so this is just an opinion.
