Is this grammatically correct:

It was a great experience discovering planning at the Department of Corrections.

Or do I need something like?

It was a great experience to discover planning at the Department of Corrections.

I think the first sentence is fine?

Or maybe:

It was great to discover planning at the Department of Corrections.
