The archivist, Iris Haussler, was determined to have the house and their contents designated a historic site. So she and her assistant began taking peoples on walking tours through the house, giving lectures about Wagenbach’s life and art, trying to drum up public support for the project. The most heartbreaking room in the house belonged to Wagenbach’s former lover and muse, Anna Neritti. He had the room sealed in 1974 after Neritti left him, and it remained untouched for more than thirty years.
