Are the following sentences correct? If so, can they be improved?

Although plays were staged at the school auditorium every year, the quality of performance was not very high. The auditorium was usually full as the local people had little or no access to better entertainments. English plays were also staged occasionally. I remember watching Shakespeare’s Macbeth staged in 1996.

I would say "the quality of the performances." I don't think that "performance" works as an uncountable noun very well here.

Also, in the US, "entertainment" is also uncountable. It would not be "entertainments." I understand that that is not a problem in BrE.

I also prefer a comma here "...usually full, as the local..."

You use "staged" a lot. You could look for another
