which is correct?

Could you help me?she said
Can you help me?she said
what the difference between them...is it the tense?

"He goes and..." is very colloquial.

Simply say "He helps the old man," or "He goes TO help the old man."

"Could you help me?" she asked.
"Can you help me?" she asked.

Could is a more polite way to make a request.
