COM ELECTIONS 2011

Above all student organizations in this institution lies the student council known as the CORPS OF MIDSHIPMEN (COM). The COM shall be the sole policy-making body of the students and shall be responsible for promoting discipline and carrying out the policies, rules and regulations that directly affect the welfare and interest of the students in accordance with the principles and ideals of the institution; the executive body of the COM undertakes and carries out plans that contribute to the promotion of student welfare; it shall serve as channel of communication among different organizations and coordinate school activities for common interest of the students.- Article/ Sections 1,2,3 & 5 of MPCF-LC Student Guidebook.

Thus the selection of officers in the said council shall be and as expected to be one of the toughest and hardly achieved positions.

Well, some said that COM election for this Academic Year is definitely one of the most exciting, highly-strained and quite dramatic that even friends become foes. It was when Midn. Jammil Ivandan Cea and Midn. Marlon Letada , both COM officers of the last A/Y and were known to be close friends chose to oppose each other for a single purpose of hitting the highest known position in the COM- to be the COM Master Midshipman.

July 11, afternoon, right after the proclamation and of candidates for COM officership, four (4) positions of which has only 1 filed candidate meaning unopposed namely the COM Auditor, VP for Business Education, Chief Steward and Radio Operator. Each party led by their preferred master midshipman began campaigning every classroom one after another making sure that they get if not all but most of the trusts of the entire student body of MPCF-LC. Both parties exhibited great will and confidence that each will garner most of the votes. They continued rooming until the morning before the election starts.

July 13, 2011at 1300H, in the Audio Visual Room (AVR) skippers came entering the venue. Heartbeats started pumping at higher and greater rates time after time. Boundless tension enters the place by the time the counting of votes begun. It is perceived in the faces of everybody in the room the hope of gaining the win of the individuals whom they support. As the time the ballot box became fully unoccupied counting the very last vote, applause comforted the winners and even the failed ones. It was a good fight. Indeed it was. After the appraisal, Mr. Conrado L. Cordero being the Vice President for Academic Affairs along with Mrs. Cynthia A. Duka as the Student Personnel Services Directress and Presently the COM adviser proclaimed the conquerors. Students of Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Rawis, Leagazpi City, and the new set off COM officers for the academic year 2011-2012 are:
