"John went to school yesterday."
How to use "who" to question it?
Which one is right?
1. Who went to school yesterday?
2. Who did go to school yesterday?

Instead of saying ' went ' the second one uses ' did go ' , the did is the emphasis. It also applies in present tense. Say, you want somebody to come. You can say ' Please come' or an emphatic version using a do in front of come. " Please do come "
