Hello everyone,

Could you please tell me the meaning of the following question?

Why do we wear what we wear?

I think it is "Why do we wear and what do we wear?"

That means "Why do we wear clothes and what type clothes do we wear?

Is the above meaning correct?

No. It means "Why do we wear the clothes that we wear and not some other clothes?"

what we wear is a noun phrase, not an interrogative content clause (not an indirect question). That noun phrase is the complement (direct object) of the verb "wear".

You can interpret the NP what we wear as the thing(s)/clothes that we wear where that we wear is a relative clause modifyi
