Hi,

1) What would be another way of saying - "I need to fill in the gaps in my knowledge of engineering." Let's say that I'm new at it.

2) "Was there any new exposition in the lecture?" If we just had a seminar before a lecture and I wanted to know if a new topic was covered, could I use the sentence above? I know how to say it in a different way, but I'm curious about this particular example. I came across it in a book and I was wondering if it could be used in real life or if it sounds too formal.

Thank you.

2) "Was there any new exposition in the lecture?"

Yes, this is not natural. More common is eg Did she talk about anything new?
