Hello everyone,

Are the sentences below okay with "few", "a few", "need only", and "only need"?

1. We need only few onions.

2. We need only a few onions

3. We only need few onions.

4. We only need a few onions.

To a pedant like me, only #2 is both natural and correct, but I have to admit that #4 is acceptable to most native speakers these days.

#1 is grammatically correct, but not very natural. Most of us would say "We don't need many onions".

# 3 is neither naural nor correct.
