Both a and b are grammatically correct. The circumstances described in the sentence, however, argue for a as the better choice. 'We' probably heard the whole speech about space exploration (talk). We didn't just overhear a short fragment (talking).

(a) and (b) are both possible.

(d) is also grammatically possible (in the sense "we heard (that) ..."). I suppose it could make logical sense if the previous speaker is due to speak again.
