grammar

Hello. This is an email writing to my ex-lecturer. Just hope someone could give me a help by having a look on my grammar. Thanks in advance! Emotion: big smile

Thanks for your encouraging email. As what you have said, they requested our resume when we registered with them. But since their recruiting period were over now, I was not putting high expectations to gain an internship with (xxx company) this summer.

It was really much more efficient when working in group. We enjoy discussing a lot, especially when we met some tricky questions, everyone will have our different ways of analyzing the problem, which would trigger us to have more other related questions and motivate us to explore more in the subject. It is also a good way to prevent us from procrastinating. We are going to have our mid-term exams next week, with six deadlines all coming up together within the next two weeks. That's why we have been start working on those assignments since last week. I've realized that working with friends also help reduced our stress, as we have much fun working together than doing the work all alone in the library.

The internship is definitely an attracting offer. I have already passed those information to our Society's committee, so they could spread the news out to the others.

It was really the best time to travel around southern Europe at this period! I've met a lot of interesting people and stories in that journey, and we've also visited the CERN in Geneva. It was a budget travel since we are all students, so we always take carpool when travelling in long distance to save some costs, and we met a couple who did their PHD in MIT when we travel from Geneva to Milan. The couple are currently doing their research in CERN right now, so they told us a lot of interesting stories of working in CERN. We also met a lot of new friends in youth hostel, where most of them were like us, having their Easter vacation and taking this opportunity to travel around in Europe.

The crowd was quite okay for Vatican as compared to Venice. It was really packed when we were in Venice, as that time is the actual Easter weekend. The Vatican castle is truly astonish, I hope time could reversed so I can enjoy the sunset again chillin at Tiber River while watching the amazing view of Vantican Castle. I really appreciate the memories we had in the trip, where it's still a 'yet-to-achieve' bucket list for many of my friends.

I guess it's time for me to continue on my coursework now. I heard that the weather in (country) is extremely hot recently, which is completely an opposite with here. I hope this email finds you well. Take care!

Yours sincerely,
xxx

This is how I would revise it (US usage): Thank's for your encouraging email. As you predicted, they requested my resume when I registered with them. But their active recruiting period was over by that time, and so I'm not having high expectations of gaining an internship with ____ this summer.

  • In an internship you apparently work solo, but I'm more efficient in a group.
  • In a group you can discuss tricky questions with the others, and you can "brainstorm," everyone contributing his way of analyzing the problem, which can generate novel solutions and links to related issues.
