Unlike doctors and lawyers (who alongside comprise the stereotypical triumvirate of skilled professionals) who interact with patients and clients on a regular basis, there is a disconnect between engineers and society.

It's difficult to revise, because I am not sure what you mean by 'alongside'. I assume that there is a word missing after 'alongside' (which would be better as ' along with'), a word such as 'teachers', 'architects' or 'engineers'. It takes three to make a triumvirate.
