I believed that right now, i am in a crowd of people, who are dissatisfied! Because if not, i guess, there’s no reason for you to be here.

Your presence makes me conclude that there is a burning desire within from each one of you, pursuing for that something that would somehow fill in the gap between what you have now as professional engineers and what else more to add on.

What is that vacuum that i have to fill in? What i do not possess that i still need to obtain? What it will keep worth for me to find that something i will consider so dear and precious, a treasure maybe which i can share but never can be taken away from me. Perhaps, there’s a lot more, and there is a need to push more!

Are these not some of the clarifications of a person who is looking for something more and was discontented in life? An awful feeling isn’t it? Very disgusting! And i guess, no body wants to be in this situation, but perhaps somehow you would agree with me today, that dissatisfaction is paramount as far as something great and far more better. Is required from us. A moving force that we need to push us to the top.

I think for a while, we have to pause in silence and accept the reality that we are not yet done, we are not yet complete and satisfied. We had not yet arrived our destined destination and we have to still continue the journey way ahead. There’s is a lot more on road to accomplish. And there is no need to park yet. -there is something more we ought to acquire and deliver.

the civil engineers has made his own history too long ago, our craft has bring forth so much impressiveness and importance that the society had love so much. No doubt we frequently made loud noises wherever we go. A lot of praises, cheers, recognitions and waves has been accorded on us. We have rendered unsurmountable contributions with splendor they cannot resist and maybe by now we cannot count them all. No one can deny that the fruits of our labors have able to put a smile on the faces of all the people we dearly love. And served, a smile on their faces, which i believed, is our primary most passion.

Notwithstanding all that high regards and esteem, we were spared not as well from all sorts of criticism and disappointments. For the past series of dreadful events that our country has underwent through, this help us not to stop the people from throwing their blames, demands and even to the point of questioning our credibility and competence for failing them to give an abode or structures where they can be safe & sound even the cause of destructions are said to be force majeure. Instead of being acknowledged we received reproach from them.

Some catastrophic events involving lost of lives periodically remind people the notion of zero risk and of completely guaranteed safety does not exist. In most cases, technical catastrophes occurring in engineered structures are not accepted by the society. The reaction of the society, that is largely supported and amplified by the media for obvious pecuniary reasons is to try to find and punish the persons generally all pointing to engineers, as they think are reponsble. This position is of course is acceptable when the catastrophe is due to human deficiency, negligence or loss of adapted survey and preliminary studies. However, most of the time society is not willing to accept this. And this leaves us a message not just to sit down, droop, slack and be contented..

The people around the world expect more from us. There is a sense of calling we have to take heed. There is a urgency for us to strive more and work hard more in order to be responsive.
