Grammar

I wrote an email to my teacher today. I was wondering if what I wrote was okay. ( Will we have to construct graphs based off of the models?) he did reply back, but I'm worried that I used improper grammar. (he said you will not NEED to construct graphs) now I'm worried he caps NEED because I made a mistake.

Hello, life—and welcome to English Forums.

Will we have to construct graphs based on the models?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum, life412.
I do not see anything wrong with "have to". You know more about the situation than I do, but my guess would be that your teacher was emphasizing that graphs are not compulsory.
I would say "Will we have to construct graphs based on the models?" though.

Thank you. Sorry for not placing the sentence in the correct space. I'm just worried because my professor did reply back saying, "You will not NEED to construct graphs, but if this helps in your description you are welcome to include them." I'm just concerned because he caps need and I thought I used the wrong word. Did my sentence make me seem like an idiot?

It seems he meant that graphs were optional, not compulsory. There is nothing wrong with have to.

It's the use of 'off of' that makes one sound uneducated. Avoid it.

Funny—I use it all the time in conversation. No one seems to lose their respect for me.
