Please tell which one of below is correct:

1) We have had to play the game. (this is present perfect)
OR
2) We had to play the game. (this is simple past)

Whats the difference between the two in terms of meaning?

Please kindly explain when to use "have had" and when only "had".

I know "had" is for the past, but then I've heard so many native speakers using "have had" for the past situation as well.

Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks!
