Can someone please help me with this question.

Which one is correct below:

1) Do you know where we are going? (I was told this one is correct)
2) Do you know where are we going? (I was told this one is wrong)

based on above, what I understood was, we can't pose a question after another question in the same sentence.

But then, I have heard the following sentence from native speakers:

3) Do you know who has his book? (two separate questions combined together).

Please tell why q1 and q3 are correct and q2 is wrong.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Thank you!
