Context: It is a translation work of a book on Safe Driving.

Self confidence

A driver should do his duty having a strong trust in his technical skills. This trait gets strengthened through experience. However, if he is over confident he neglects certain important aspects of driving and this results in accidents.

Rules of the Road

A driver should possess utmost concern for all the people who use the road. Taking into the account the safety of all the road users, many rules have been framed by the Motor Vehicle Act. The first and the foremost duty of a driver is to keep himself well informed of all those rules and drive accordingly.

Driving with caution

Even when a driver has not violated any rule of the road, he cannot be called a cautious driver if he fails to prevent accidents owing to bad roads, rain, fog or carelessness of other drivers or pedestrians or defects in his own vehicle.

Machine knowledge of the vehicle

Even if a driver is not required to possess detailed engineering knowledge of the vehicle, it is very important that he understands the structure and functioning of the vehicle besides the parts which control the vehicle and the way they function and also he needs to understand the overall maintenance of the vehicle.

All these are the traits which an efficient skilled and cautious driver possesses.
