Hi, please help me.

"The truth is, we're hot on the trail of whomever kidnapped the mayor."

"Whomever" is OK in this sentence?

I wonder if "whomever" should be replaced with "whoever."

You're right, tashiro: it should be 'whoever ( S ) kidnapped ( V )'.

Whomever - refers to the object of the sentence; whoever - refers to the subject of the sentence.
