Hi

Can you help?

She said, "Is your house not far?"

She asked if my house was not far.

I think I have reported the question correctly. But I am a little doubtful whether 'not' the indirect speech conveys the intended idea of the speaker. Can I report this in another way?

Hi,

You could consider

eg She asked if my house was near/nearby/close.

Your indirect speech assumes that she said this to you.

Do you know how to report it if she said it to somebody else,

Hi Clive,

Thanks for the alternatives you have given.

I want to know how I can report it if that had been told to someone else.

Hi,

eg She asked him if his house was nearby.

eg She asked the person if his house was nearby.
