Can you help?

Are these sentences correct?

1. Avoid spliting of words. (When the student writes one part of the word in the following line (due to lack of space).

2. She did not give him money nor help him in any other way.

3. He was doing nothing but pretending as if he was here with /on a purpose.

Can I aslo say "...as if he had a purpose for being here."

4.Not only are smokers putting themselves at a risk of suffering harmful effects, but also they endanger the lives of non-smokers, the passive smokers.
