Hi

Can you help?

This statement was given to be changed to indirect speech (using apologise as reporitng verb).

I said, "I was sorry for I was so rude."

This was the expected answer:

I apologised for I had been so rude.

Can we consider this?

I apologised for being so rude.

On seeing this answer I felt this seems more natural perhaps because of the use of apologise as the reporting verb.

' Can we consider this? ' On seeing this answer I felt this seems more natural perhaps because of the use of apologise as the reporting verb-- It has nothing to do with 'apologize' per se. It is a good alternative structure (since we don't really use past perfect so often).

This was the expected answer: 'I apologised, for I had been so rude.'

Can we consider this? 'I apologised for being so rude.'
