Hi

Can you help?

She said that she no longer likes that park.

Should 'liked' replace 'likes' here?

Thank you, retsam.

For a long time it had been my practice to change the verb in the speech to past. But I had always carried the doubt why I should not the leave present tense unchanged if idea holds good for the present also. Recently I learnt that it is alright to do so. But I still had the last bit of doubt over it.

And Avangi's reply has reaffirmed it.

I don't see any reason to make that replacement unless you are telling the story of something that happened a long time ago. Or unless she's dead now, of course.

Thank you CalifJim

Now I am quite confident on this concept. Earlier it was like whether I should merely go with the common practice or heed the call of logical reasoning just as you have done now.
