Hi,

Could anyone help?

Can we say "This tells or told us she was happy."?

I referred to a grammar book which says that present tense in main clause should be followed by present tense in subordinate clause.

The sentence I have given does not comply to this.

Both ok. This tells us (now) (that) she was happy (in the past). This told us (in the past) (that) she was happy (in the past).

Thank you Ivanhr.

I'm afraid I have missed taking note of exceptions to that rule I have referred to in my previous thread.

It says in noun clause which is introduced by that and in adverb clause of comparsion, any tense can be used in the subordinate clause.

She says that she is/was /will be happy.

She reads as well as her sister reads/read/will
